Mural at M.A.U.Mi Museum - Rome

I had the chance to paint a mural inside the M.U.A.Mi. Museum in Rome, in Sept. 2022

M.AU.Mi is a museum that tells the story of the migration of Rome through public art. Each work is a "fragment" of this history, reconstructed in an interdisciplinary research curated by the Rome Emigration Studies Center.

In the summer of 2022, 10 artists from Rome have been called to represent through their art a specific era, mine was the modern age (1492 - 1789) and thanks to the help of Muri Lab and a research through the catacombs close to that area (east Rome), I found the symbol of peacock in several places as sign of rebirth (in a new place, in a new life...).
Walking inside the underground catacombs I found many scratches on the walls, as a passing testimony of each people that arrived from far away and settled in Rome. In order to match the historical migration and the current phenomenon of migrants especially around the East Rome area, close to the museum. That's why I decided to reproduce on the wall the same scratch effect mixing names and dates both from ancient Chatolics than muslim families.

For the calligram on peacock I choose a quote from the poetess MARGUERITE YOURCENAR:
"Sembra esserci nell'uomo, come negli uccelli, un bisogno di migrazione, una vitale necessità di sentirsi altrove."

Thanks for watching.
